After discussing the Covid 19 Pandemic and studying the work of contemporary collage artists Patrick Bremer, David Hockney, Benon Lutaaya, and David Gores, Edmunds Middle School and Essex Middle School students set about creating their own self-portraits using collage as the medium. The patience needed to create these pieces is nothing short of herculean. 7th and 8th grade students deserve a medal for their persistence and commitment to this persnickety art form.
Check out Black is a Rainbow Color by Angela Joy, on display in the library’s front windows. With illustrations by Ekua Holmes, Black is a Rainbow Color celebrates a people, history, and culture as a child reflects on the meaning of being Black.
