For this special online event, Dan + Claudia Zanes present music for kids and families by the esteemed Ella Jenkins! Grammy award winning children’s performer Dan Zanes and Haitian-American music therapist / jazz vocalist Claudia Zanes have been making music with each other since the day they met in the fall of 2016. In 2017 Smithsonian Folkways released "Lead Belly, Baby!," a collection of renditions of classic Lead Belly songs for children by Dan Zanes & Friends.

Introducing audiences to classical music through performance and commentary. Works by Bach, Mozart, Elgar, Glière, and more.

Join fellow parents, educators and child development and trauma experts for an important conversation about how you can talk with young children about racial injustice and violence against Black people. Together, we’ll explore questions such as: How can parents of Black children continue to instill confidence and pride in young kids while also explaining the racial inequity and barriers that continue today? And, how can parents of non-Black children help young kids understand their role in confronting anti-Black racism?

National Ambassadors for Children’s Literature Kate DiCamillo (The Tale of Despereaux) and Jason Reynolds (Look Both Ways) take the stage for our third Open Door Sessions event. We are thrilled to welcome two of the most skilled, compelling, and beloved children’s authors in the United States back to Brookline, and far beyond. This event welcomes attendees of all ages.

Award-winning authors Kwame Alexander, Jacqueline Woodson and Jason Reynolds have organized a Kidlit Community Rally for Black Lives, hosted on Facebook Live by The Brown Bookshelf. We invite you to join us at 7 p.m - 7:45 PM EST (For K-12 Students) and 7:45-8:30 PM EST (For Parents, Teachers, and Educators) on Thursday, June 4. Please spread the word. People around the nation are hurting. This is a time to come together and stand up. Our kids need us, and we are here for them.
